Catenaa, Friday, November 22, 2024 – Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a fair and equitable global governance system while warning against economic protectionism and fragmentation during the G20 Summit in Brazil on Monday, November 28.

Addressing world leaders, Xi outlined China’s eight actions to support global development and emphasized the importance of multilateralism in tackling global challenges.

Xi urged nations to avoid politicizing economic issues and to strengthen international cooperation across economic, financial, trade, and digital domains.

He also highlighted the need for inclusive globalization and reforming institutions like the World Trade Organization to restore its dispute settlement mechanism and finalize e-commerce agreements.

In his speech, Xi stressed the importance of global digital governance, particularly in regulating artificial intelligence, and pledged China’s continued commitment to green development. He emphasized China’s role as a reliable partner for the Global South, with initiatives such as high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and $20 billion allocated for development funds.

Xi’s remarks resonated strongly with participants and aligned with the G20’s Rio de Janeiro Leaders’ Declaration, which emphasized the need for multilateral cooperation to address socioeconomic, geopolitical, and environmental crises.

Leaders also launched a Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, a priority issue for this year’s summit.
