New York, Friday, November 08, 2024-The Mozilla Foundation, the nonprofit branch of the tech company behind Firefox, has laid off 30% of its staff, including the closure of its advocacy and global programs divisions, as part of a significant reorganization.

Reports said that Mozilla Foundation’s Executive Director Nabiha Syed, had informed employees of the layoffs in an internal email on October 30, emphasizing the need to “focus resources on creating a more open and equitable tech future.”

Syed noted that advocacy remains central to Mozilla’s mission and will be woven into other functional areas moving forward.

Mozilla’s latest layoffs follow an earlier round this year that affected its Mozilla Corporation arm, which develops the Firefox browser.

Syed, who joined Mozilla in February, explained that these organizational changes are intended to help the Foundation navigate an evolving digital landscape.

Mozilla has long been known for its work promoting privacy, inclusion, and decentralized technology. While the advocacy division is no longer standalone, Mozilla insists its commitment to these principles remains strong as it seeks to craft a unified, impactful narrative.
