World Mobile Expands Web3 Network with Base Launch

In Summary

  • World Mobile launches its blockchain infrastructure on Base.
  • Integrates Coinbase Smart Wallet for easier user onboarding.
  • Expands Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN).
  • Aims to bridge the global digital divide with innovative services.

New York, Saturday, October 12, 2024 – World Mobile, the global Web3 wireless network, has officially launched its blockchain infrastructure on Base, an Ethereum-based Layer 2 blockchain recently.

This strategic move links World Mobile’s Layer 3 blockchain, World Mobile Chain (WMC), with Base as the settlement layer. The integration of the Coinbase Smart Wallet into the World Mobile app is expected to streamline onboarding for new onchain users.

This expansion marks a significant step in World Mobile’s mission to build a vast Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN), further supported by its ‘triple play’ services offering cellular, broadband, and value-added services.

In the past year, World Mobile has achieved major milestones, including launching global commercial network services across three continents and deploying an aerostat in Mozambique, in collaboration with Vodacom and the GSMA. Recently, the network sold out its decentralized wireless nodes (AirNodes) in under 36 hours, reaching 100,000 daily active users.

World Mobile Group’s CEO, Micky Watkins, stated that launching on Base is crucial for accelerating growth and innovation within the network. By incorporating the Coinbase Smart Wallet, the network aims to simplify user participation and broaden access to digital services.

Zachary Vann, Head of Token at World Mobile Token, emphasized that using Base’s infrastructure will enhance the scale and functionality of the World Mobile Chain, reinforcing their goal of creating a leading DePIN network.

This launch reflects the growing importance of decentralized, resilient infrastructures like DePINs, which aim to extend connectivity to underserved regions, bridging the global digital divide.
