London, Wednesday, October 09, 2024- A new HBO documentary yesterday claimed that it had identified Peter Todd, a Canadian developer, as the elusive Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous founder of Bitcoin.
However, Todd had denied the claim.

The claim, made by award-winning filmmaker Cullen Hoback, has reignited debate in the crypto world, although Todd has strongly denied the allegation.

This is HBO’s new documentary series exploring the rise of cryptocurrencies, diving into the technology, controversies, and key figures behind the digital currency revolution.

The series, titled Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, offers an in-depth look at the origins of Bitcoin and the identity of its mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

Through interviews with experts and insiders, the series also examines the broader implications of cryptocurrencies on global finance, privacy, and regulation. The documentary aims to shed light on the challenges and opportunities of the rapidly evolving crypto landscape.

The first episode builds its case by piecing together old and newly uncovered clues, leading to a dramatic confrontation with Todd and Blockstream founder Adam Back. In the film’s final scene, Todd appears to acknowledge his role by saying, “Well, yeah, I’m Satoshi Nakamoto,” a phrase he has used previously to express solidarity with Satoshi’s quest for privacy.

However, in an email sent to CoinDesk before the documentary’s release, Todd stated emphatically, “Of course I’m not Satoshi.”

Another episode suggested that Len Sassaman, a renowned figure in the cyberpunk and cryptography communities, could be the real identity behind Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

Sassaman, who passed away in 2011, played a key role in the cypherpunk movement and contributed to the development of privacy-enhancing technologies.
