Google Cloud, Solana Labs Launch GameShift to Boost Web3 Gaming

In Summary

  • Google Cloud and Solana Labs launch GameShift API.
  • Simplifies Web3 integration for traditional game developers.
  • Offers NFTs and tokenized assets on Google Cloud Marketplace.
  • Aims to bridge Web2 and Web3 gaming.

New York, Wednesday, October 02, 2024 – Google Cloud and Solana Labs have teamed up to introduce GameShift, a new API aimed at simplifying the integration of Web3 features into traditional Web2 games last week.

GameShift, launched on September 23, 2024, is now available on the Google Cloud Marketplace and offers a range of tools, including wallets, tokenized assets, and payment systems, tailored for gaming developers.

The collaboration aims to bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3 by enabling game developers to incorporate blockchain technology without needing prior blockchain experience.

GameShift’s user-friendly platform allows developers to integrate non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and other digital assets seamlessly into existing game backends, speeding up development and reducing costs.

Google Cloud said that while game studios are interested in exploring Web3, the complexity of the technology often deters them. GameShift is designed to provide a simplified approach to Web3, addressing both technical and cultural challenges for game developers.

This latest partnership builds on previous collaborations between Google Cloud and Solana Labs. In 2022, Google Cloud became a node validator on Solana’s blockchain.

The announcement follows a period of growth for Solana, with a significant surge in new and active addresses on its blockchain, reaching over 60 million active addresses as of September 24, 2024.
