Venezuelan Authorities Carry Out Raids on Illegal BTC Mining

Tuesday, September 17, 2024 – Venezuelan armed forces and prosecutors raided a crypto mining operation in Guarico state, reports said.

It is reported that they had arrested 30 miners and had seized 35 pieces of mining equipment, fans, and vehicles.

The report said that the miners did not have licenses for Bitcoin mining operations.

Authorities said that the illegal usage of the National Electric System (SEN) for illegal cryptocurrency mining had affected the power supply in Venezuela over the past years.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electrical Energy said it expected the elimination of illegal crypto miners from the grid would reduce the pressure and would make room to provide the citizens with a reliable service.

Earlier, the Venezuelan government commissioned engineering units of the army to mine Bitcoin. However later on they have been redeployed to tackle the illegal crypto mining in the country.

In similar incidents recently in Malaysia and Thailand also crypto miners had been arrested for illegally tapping power grids to operate mining farms.
