New York, Thursday, September 12, 2024 – Tether Operations Limited has announced a strategic partnership with Indonesian cryptocurrency exchange Reku to advance crypto literacy across Indonesia.

The collaboration, announced on September 4, will launch a roadshow covering ten major cities from September 2024 to March 2025.

The initiative aims to educate the public about blockchain technology, digital assets, and peer-to-peer systems.

The roadshow will visit Bali, Medan, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Padang, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Balikpapan, and Jakarta, providing valuable knowledge to Indonesians navigating the digital economy.

Jesse Choi, co-CEO of Reku, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that the literacy series is expected to engage thousands of participants, enhancing their understanding of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

The collaboration aligns with Tether’s broader mission to support crypto adoption in emerging markets through its educational arm, Tether EDU.

Tether EDU has previously launched global educational programs, including the Plan ₿ Summer School in Switzerland in 2022, aimed at democratizing blockchain and crypto knowledge.

The Indonesian cryptocurrency market has shown significant growth, ranking 7th globally in crypto adoption in 2023.

The market saw crypto transactions reach 211 trillion Indonesian Rupiah (US$13 billion) in May 2024, with registered crypto investors rising from 8.25 million in November 2023 to 20.16 million by April 2024.

Despite this growth, the sector faces regulatory hurdles, with the Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (Bappebti) warning that heavy taxation could impede industry development. Current taxes include a 0.10% income tax, a 0.11% VAT on transactions, and a 0.02% transaction tax for exchanges.
