ByteDance Confirms Pico 4 Ultra Launch in China on August 20

New York, Friday, August 16, 2024 – ByteDance has officially confirmed that its next-generation virtual reality headset, the Pico 4 Ultra, would be launched in China on August 20.

This announcement follows a series of teasers and leaks over the past year, which have hinted at the new device’s capabilities and specifications.

Initial speculation about the global release of the Pico 4 Ultra was changed by recent updates indicating that the August 20 launch event will be limited to China, with international availability expected at a later date.

The headset might be rebranded as Pico 4S outside of China, as suggested by recent trademarks filed by ByteDance.

The Pico 4 Ultra is rumored to feature the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM, positioning it as a direct competitor to Meta’s Quest 3, which offers 8GB of RAM.

The device is also expected to support advanced connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7, according to filings with South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency.

ByteDance’s decision to launch the Pico 4 Ultra follows the underwhelming performance of the Pico 4, which led to the cancellation of the anticipated Pico 5.

The upcoming launch marks an important moment for ByteDance as it seeks to solidify its position in the VR market.
