Telegram CEO Predicts 2024 Blockchain Boom, Reveals Features

New York, Monday, August 12, 2024- Telegram CEO Pavel Durov on July 27 has projected 2024 as the year of widespread blockchain adoption, with the messaging platform poised to play a key role in this transformation.

Durov announced a series of upcoming features aimed at enhancing user experience and fostering blockchain integration.

In a statement on his Telegram channel, Durov expressed confidence in the platform’s ability to introduce blockchain technology to hundreds of millions of people. “2024 will be remembered as the year when blockchain went mainstream. We are proud that Telegram is at the forefront of this societal shift,” he said.

Among the new features, Telegram will roll out a mini app store and an in-app browser designed to support Web3 pages.

These tools are intended to provide users with easier access to decentralized applications and blockchain-based services directly within the Telegram ecosystem.

Durov also highlighted the company’s ongoing efforts to combat cryptocurrency scams. Telegram plans to introduce features that will display the registration month and principal country for public accounts, similar to Instagram’s account transparency measures. Additionally, organizations will be able to issue verification labels through mini apps, creating a decentralized marketplace for third-party verification.

The CEO reiterated Telegram’s commitment to developing decentralized tools, including non-custodial wallets and decentralized exchanges, to facilitate secure cryptocurrency transactions. These initiatives align with Durov’s previous statements on leveraging the Open Network (TON) to eliminate the need for centralized intermediaries in the blockchain industry.

Telegram’s user base has grown significantly, reaching 950 million monthly active users, up from 900 million earlier this year. Durov anticipates the platform will surpass the one billion user mark soon, underscoring the platform’s expanding influence and reach.

As Telegram continues to innovate and adapt to the evolving digital landscape, Durov’s vision of blockchain becoming a mainstream technology seems increasingly within reach.
