SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, July 26, 2024- OpenAI unveiled a new search engine prototype on Thursday that aims to challenge Google’s dominance by using artificial intelligence to provide quick, accurate answers to user queries.
SearchGPT, as the tool is called, is designed to combine the power of AI with real-time web data to deliver more relevant and informative search results, according to OpenAI.
The company said the prototype, currently available to a limited group of users and publishers, will help gather feedback to improve the technology. There is a waiting list at the OpenAI website, where users can register.
OPenAI said that unlike traditional search engines that provide a list of links, SearchGPT offers direct answers to user questions, complete with citations and links to source material. The tool also includes a sidebar with additional related information.
OpenAI said it is committed to support publishers by giving them control over how their content appears in search results.
The company said it is seeking feedback from users and publishers to refine SearchGPT and eventually integrate its best features into ChatGPT.
While still in its early stages, SearchGPT represents a significant step forward in the evolution of search technology and could potentially reshape the way people find information online.
