Google to End Trust for Entrust Certs After November


Mountain View, Calif., Monday, July 1, 2024-Google announced on June 27 that it would phase out trust for digital certificates issued by Entrust, a prominent certificate authority (CA), in its Chrome web browser beginning in November 2024. This decision follows ongoing concerns regarding Entrust’s compliance with industry security standards.1

The move will affect Chrome versions 127 and above on various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, Android, and Linux. Websites relying on Entrust certificates issued after October 31, 2024, will be flagged as insecure when accessed using these Chrome versions.

Google recommends that website operators holding Entrust certificates transition to a different, trusted CA before the November 2024 deadline. This will ensure a smooth user experience for Chrome visitors and avoid potential website security warnings.

Entrust has not yet issued a public statement regarding Google’s decision.
